HDV 1080i

High definition video comes in few different guises, one of the best hdv formats is HDV 1080i, this format utilizes 1440x1080 frame with 1.33 pixel aspect ratio. HDV 1080i actually reduces the amount of data recorded, making the video optimised for storage yet of extremely high quality.

Using 1080i camcorders are capable of recording progressive video with an interlaced stream, camcorders capable of the recording high definition video use certain recording modes in 1080i to ensure watching video using the camcorder as a hdv player is possible. Interlacing video improves viewing on modern HD televisions as the latest plasma and LCD technology are intrinsically progressive.

Sony pioneered in HDV camcorders and 1080i format in 2004, the HDV-fx1 provides broadcast level quality, although it has been classified as a semi pro hd video camera many people believe it to be one of the best portable hdv camcorders available.


HDV 1080p

This high definition video format is the original 1080 specification for interlaced video to be used in tv broadcasting. More recently 1080p is being used for web videos that need a higher quality. Camcorders are also increasingly featuring 1080p as a preferred recording format allowing home users to create high definition video at lower cost.

Canon camcorders started to feature the 1080p format in 2009 making consumer HDV cameras commercially available at a lower budget. As hdtv’s capable of 1080 formats this was a very wise development by Canon with more camcorder making following shortly afterwards.

Sony versions of HDV 1080p cameras were available earlier but they did appear to be designed for more commercial use and were priced accordingly. Many camera manufactures now claim to be leaders in HDV camera technology but due to the varied abilities we recommend you carefully assess ability of each camera to match your requirements.
